I have grown to love the rural countryside of northern Pennsylvania; this bucolic landscape is so peaceful and the gentle people who live in this community are deeply connected to this magical place.
As an artist living and working in this environment, I became greatly affected by the recent impact of the hydraulic fracturing industry in this farming community. Drawings in this project, At the Bottom of the Well…Thunder, are graphic representations of energy generated and dispersed in the process of hydraulic fracturing. This body of work examines human interactions with the natural world and observes the impact of these activities. My attempt is to pause for a moment and reflect upon the multilayered environmental, social and political concerns brought to light by the hydraulic fracturing industry and our role in environmental preservation.
